The Easter torrijas are one of the most traditional desserts in Spain. During Easter, traditional dishes of the grandmothers are prepared that we can cook with the children, such as these baked torrijas.

  • 1 loaf of stale bread or torrijas
  • 1 l. milk
  • 1 lemon
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 100 gr. of sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • Honey
  • Cinnamon powder
  • Sugar to decorate

1. Heat the milk together with the sugar, the cinnamon sticks and the lemon peel. You can put a branch, if you want a softer cinnamon flavor, or put two to make it more intense.

2. Leave over high heat until it boils. Remove from the heat, remove the cinnamon and lemon, passing the milk through a strainer, and reserve.

3. Cut the bread slices into thick slices. Beat the egg and pass the slices through it, let them drain.

4. Preheat the oven to 165ºC. Place the torrijas on a tray lined with parchment paper and put in the oven. Bake for 5 minutes, turn and leave for two more minutes.

5. When they are golden brown, remove them torrijas. When they are still hot, coat in sugar and cinnamon, with the proportions to taste. They can also be bathed in honey, heating it in a saucepan with a little water, pass the bread and let it drain.
