It is already difficult for many parents to avoid the contagion of lice in their children, imagine when they receive a notice from school or they perceive that one of their children has lice ... To one concern is added another: what to do so that the child who has lice does not pass them on to other family members? How to avoid the spread of lice indoors?

Preventing the spread of lice from one child to another is one of the main concerns of parents. Considering that the contagion of lice is by direct contact, that is, they are spread by rubbing one head with another and passing from one hair to another with great ease, it is necessary to implement some prevention measures to avoid the spread of lice in the family .

When it is confirmed that any member of the family has lice, it is very important to:

- Make a deep cleaning and detailed throughout the house.

- Avoid sharing combs, brushes, towels, blankets, sheets, and all kinds of clothing that comes into contact with the head, such as scarves, hats, hats, raincoats, etc.

- Do a thorough cleaning of furniture shared by family members. Vacuuming the cushions, pillows and armchairs in the house.

- Wash all clothing of the infested person at high temperatures (60 degrees) in the washing machine to remove lice or nits that they may contain.

- Check all objects, like the heads of children, to detect the presence or absence of lice.

- Sheets and blankets that can be washed at high temperatures, should be washed in the washing machine.

- Stuffed animals, jerseys, scarves ... that cannot be washed in the washing machine at high temperatures, as a precautionary measure, it is recommended to place them in a plastic bag that can be hermetically closed and leave them stored for a week. In this way the nits and lice die since they will be outside their host and there will be no risk of contagion because the lice do not survive more than two days outside the human head.

- No need to treat dogs or cats. They do not transmit or get human lice. So you don't need to treat them.

Apart from prevention measures, it is necessary to take into account that lack of hygiene is not the main cause for the appearance or not of lice on a person. A person with proper and correct hygiene can have lice just as well as a person who does not. There is more prevalence of lice in thinner, blond hair, and in children over 2 years of age and in adult women.
