Take some yeast and sugar and mix them with hot water to teach your children to blow up a balloon in a curious way with this experiment for children.

  • 1 balloon
  • 1 plastic bottle
  • Sugar
  • Yeast
  • Hot water (45º)

Tip: Place the balloon well in the mouth of the bottle so that the air does not escape.

1. Take a plastic bottle and fill it with hot water. The water temperature should be around 45ºC.

2. Add a few tablespoons of yeast.

3. Also add a little sugar and mix it with the yeast and water.

4. Put the balloon in the mouth of the bottle and shake it. By leaving the bottle at rest you will see how the balloon begins to inflate.

Yeast and sugar form a chemical reaction when they mix, producing carbon dioxide (CO2). This gas takes up space, but as it is not in the bottle, it moves into the balloon, causing it to inflate.
