Children's summer vacations do not coincide with those of adults. As a general rule, children have almost three months of vacation, while their parents can only enjoy one month.
For this reason, when the summer season approaches, parents who do not have relatives or caregivers to take care of their children during their workday, have no choice but to point them to an urban neighborhood, a camp or some children's workshop, in order to keep them cared for and occupied while they work.
The urban children's colonies began to function about 15 years ago, with the purpose of offering families an alternative that would allow the little ones to keep busy during the day, and sleep at home, without having to travel to a remote place. In these 15 years, urban neighborhoods have grown so much that schools and town councils have taken the reins and, currently, offer the service at competitive prices and have good facilities and services. The prices per week are around 100 euros, while in schools and private specialized centers, including those that offer languages, the price is around 200 or 250 euros per week. It all depends on the interests and financial possibilities of the parents.
They are a great advantage for many families, whose children who do not feel prepared to sleep away from home and do not want to opt for a camp. If this is the case with your child, sign up for the colonies first. The camp, which involves travel and being away from parents and the family home, is for children who want it, or who are more prepared to live this alternative. Everything in its own time and time. Do not compare your child with others more autonomous or more independent. Each child has a different rhythm and we must respect it.
In urban neighborhoods, children tend to learn a lot with their peers and with the playful activities they carry out. Typically, the activities create an alternative for simultaneous leisure and learning. Among the activities that are most carried out in urban neighborhoods, are:
- Games and competitions
- Visits to the swimming pools
- Sports, according to the age of the child
- Craft workshops
- Excursions Apart from these activities, many urban neighborhoods usually include a "snack" service and a dining room service, so the hours of a day in the neighborhoods are from nine in the morning to five in the afternoon, which can be extend an hour in the early morning with the entry at eight, and another in the afternoon, with the exit at six.
During this time, what is intended is that children enjoy and learn values such as respect for others and nature, friendship, cooperation and teamwork, among others.
To ensure that children are safe and cared for, while they learn and have fun, there are also other options such as summer camps, stays abroad to study languages, sports courses and a wide range of workshops (crafts, theater, environment or magic).
