My daughter got her first blocks when she was only half a year old. They were construction blocks K2 of the Polish company Hemar. I was very pleased that it was a box containing only classic single, double and triple blocks, not piles of windows, little people, trees or animals. There are always fewer items to be swallowed ...

Construction blocks K2 Hemar

I was hoping that within a few months my daughter would catch the bug and start playing with them. It happened faster than I thought. Almost immediately, she reached into the box for individual items. Of course, she ate tasty at first. However, she quickly noticed them multiple uses. First, she dismantled the constructions I built. Then she began to connect the blocks together. In a short time they began to arise mini arts. Today, after more than a year, the daughter is still playing with the same enthusiasm. The set is already there enlarged with cars, windows and people, but basic shapes are still number one.

The definite advantage of these blocks is theirs multiple uses. They can create classic houses and castles, but also three-dimensional flowers, little people, or labyrinths or race tracks for cars. It's a toy for a boy and a girl. It teaches concentration, work of small hands, connecting elements, develops a sense of balance by combining blocks so that the building can stand alone. Finally, playing with blocks develops imagination, spatial and construction skills. Polish production is solid and aesthetic. In addition, K2 blocks are almost four times cheaper than their Danish counterpart Duplo. Construction blocks come in three sizes, of which K2 is an intermediate size.

Marioinex wafer construction blocks

This year's Saint. Mikołaj gave Łucja another blocks. This time it was the wafer blocks of Marioinex type that I ordered. I met this name during Łucja's classes in the nursery. When naming them, the term is also used "Waffles". They are blocks made of plastic in the shape of small grates, which you can combine as you like to create flat or three-dimensional buildings. In addition to the basic 3 shapes (check in two colors, filled version or with "window") there are also wheels, longitudinal blocks and many others for animals and pens. I chose for Łucja basic shapes as it is only 1.5 years old. Wafers interested the daughter in the nursery. Since she met them, she plays only with them, possibly taking a break at K2 Hemar. Together, we create cubes, which we then try to arrange into a tower, block tableware (reminiscent of Flinstone), large tunnels or robots. Recently, we even created a bridge, which a moment later turned into a football goal.

"Waffles" are great alternative to blocks. Elements easily combine, quickly creating various patterns and figures. A small children's handle can easily handle blocks that are handy and light. "Waffles" develop similar skills as classic building blocks. However, they give a wider scope for the imagination. Additionally you can buy a board to use as a base or a larger wall, or huge blocks to build furniture for children. The big ones are an interesting solution for kindergartens and nurseries, as well as people with a large area.

Wooden blocks

The second type that Saint. Nicholas donated his daughter are colorful and wooden blocks. Aesthetic box contains 50 elements, various shapes and colors. They are addressed to children from 1 year old. The third type of blocks did not arouse enthusiasm or interest in our home. The daughter is disturbed by the noise that is created after the fall of each element.

Connecting elements is not easy due to various figures, and also because wooden blocks do not have the possibility of joining. In addition, they are relatively heavy and give rather little opportunities for children's imagination. Of course you can say that it's just my child who can't play with them. And there is something to it.

From the beginning, my daughter played with blocks, where connecting the two elements was easy and allowed create basic shapes. Despite this, I think wooden blocks are not a good option. Focusing a child can be practiced, but the effort of success and pride in creating a building are difficult to achieve, which can effectively discourage the child from playing with a small constructor. And this, in the era of the disappearance of imagination in children and adolescents, does not want to let.
Comparing the three most popular types of blocks, I can safely venture to say that the blocks are for both a boy and a girl. Even the youngest children can start their adventure with this toy.

The advantages of the blocks are huge and it is impossible to calculate them all in one breath. It is fun for days and weeks, consuming not only children but also adults. In a word - blocks are for everyone. The right ones for the child and parent can settle down for many years. I myself remember my blocks from my childhood, which my parents acquired with great difficulty "from the west". Maybe that's why I'm such a big fan of them. I am glad that my daughter also. Thanks to this, we can both hide behind a pile of blocks for half a day, forgetting that the weather is bad outside. And what is created I try to document that later she would remember her childhood blocks and play with my mother.
