Fever of unknown origin
In English it is called fever of unknown origin - the abbreviation FUO may have a cause in overheating of the body or in intense effort. Sometimes, however, the cause that is initially unrecognized may exist in urinary tract infections or other diseases.
When to see a doctor
If your child has a fever, be sure to drink the baby properly to prevent dehydration, as well as a light diet. The younger the child, the faster it should be. Toddler can be given temperature-lowering drugs containing paracetamol or ibuprofen (if the temperature does not drop, also interchangeably, according to the dosage described on the package). Contact your doctor, depending on how small your child is, within two or three days of fever, if the elevated temperature persists.
Good to remember
- your child may have a fever after exercise, so it's worth waiting before you measure his temperature, it's best to do it after a short rest.
- Children under 12 years of age are not given polopyrine or aspirin, medicines with acetylsalicylic acid
- suppository medications are better for children who vomit, but can be difficult to apply. In syrup or suspension, on the other hand, they are usually well accepted by small children who accept their taste without too much effort.
- We give antipyretics when the child's temperature exceeds 38.5 degrees, and certainly when it is higher than 39 degrees.
