In the past everything seemed simpler. The children wore clothes after older siblings. The several-year-old wore shoes from cousin sisters and brothers. If the shoes were in good condition (at least at first glance), hardly anyone thought about throwing them away. This happened not only because shopping in stores was difficult due to the limited range, but also because of savings. Today we live in different times. Experts are bored to buy high-end shoes, especially for young children. It is an expense of several hundred zlotys, even three or four times a year. Is it worth carrying it?

What is the difference between a child's foot and an adult's foot?

The infant's feet are soft and flexible. It is due to the still calcified skeleton, loose muscles and not fully developed ligaments. The arch of a child's foot develops fully only around 6 years of age. That is why it is so important that toddlers, especially in the first years of life, wear carefully selected shoes.

The correct choice of footwear in children, especially young children, avoids problems with feet in adulthood. However, not only. Frequent problems also counteract it walking barefoot - on grass and sand - a soft surface. During such trips without footwear, the child's foot is positioned naturally and is not limited in any way.

Why shouldn't the child wear too big or too small shoes?

When buying shoes for a child, we try to buy a product that will serve the toddler for a long time. Sometimes we quietly hope that footwear in the spring will allow it to be worn also in the fall. We do shopping so that one pair of shoes lasts all winter. In the meantime, it's easy to calculate that when buying winter footwear in early November and letting your child wear it by March, we buy shoes for five months. Meanwhile, after two months of buying well-chosen shoes, it may turn out that the footwear is already too small .... Buying expensive footwear in extreme cases, we can spend about PLN 300 on shoes every two or three months, which for the average budget may be unbearable.

Too large footwear does not provide proper support. The toddler may not feel confident in him - stumble and in a specific way wobble. In contrast, too small shoes interfere with the proper development of the foot.

Choosing a footwear for a child - theory

  • Footwear should have a soft upper.
  • Fingers should be able to move naturally. They should not be compressed or arranged in an unnatural way.
  • The sole should be flexible and non-slip.
  • The sole should be designed to protect feet and joints on uneven ground.
  • The heel should provide stable support for the child's heel.

Children's foot grows 2-3 sizes per year (counting for each size 6.6 mm). When buying footwear, you should choose a size 9 to 15 mm longer than the foot (depending on the age of the child - for younger children just starting to walk, the footwear should be more suited, for older children - you can choose slightly larger footwear).

Every 2-3 months, check your footwear to see if it is too small.

How to recognize flat feet?

Flat feet are a common problem in children. In young children, the arch of the foot is covered with a fat pad. Over time, it can bend under the influence of incorrectly selected shoes or lead to the fact that the child begins to move strangely (puts his feet inside or often stumbles). A warning signal may also be uneven abrasion of shoes (from the inside and the outside). You should also pay attention to your feet - whether there are any prints and the skin is not wrinkled (the reason may be wearing shoes made of impervious air from cheap material).

Choice of footwear - test

We decided to test for you two pairs of baby shoes. They were tested for you by the daughter of our editorial mother - a 15-month-old girl who took her first steps at 10 months of age.
We chose two pairs:

  • cheap shoes from CCC Disney collection about 60 zlotys (publicly available at every CCC point)
  • Falcotto footwear from Naturino (to be purchased online or in several stationary stores - in Warsaw, Poznań, Kraków and Łódź - cost about PLN 300).

CCC shoes are available at several points in every major city. Most often in shopping malls, architecturally adapted for mothers with children. Falcotto footwear due to the small number of stationary stores, where you can get them, reached us by post.

Differences, or balance of profits and losses

Buying cheaper footwear in our portfolio about PLN 240 is left. That's a lot. For this amount, you can buy at least three or four pairs of cheap baby footwear. When the toddler grows up from the previously purchased pair, the money saved will certainly find its destiny quickly.

By purchasing more expensive brand shoes, we get Italian product, which is already very different to the cheaper shoes. Despite the higher heels, Naturino shoes are like more flexible, pleasant to the touch. They also have a more practical fastener, which, despite unfastening by the child, prevents you from losing your shoe. Meanwhile, cheap shoes from CCC easy to get lost. During one of the walks our little tester unhooked them, removed them and threw them out of the pram.

Method of implementation - both Naturino and CCC footwear are equally solidly made. Both did not suffer after several hours of walking. Naturino footwear turned out to be easier to clean than CCC shoes. The reason may be the color difference, but it is difficult to say 100%.

Of course, the material from which the shoes were made deserves attention. Falcotto shoes from Naturino both inside and outside made of natural leather. Very nice to touch. In contrast, shoes made of CCC - the upper is made of plastic and the middle of textile material. Falcotto footwear have profiled interior and have been enriched with openings to facilitate air circulation, while CCC shoes are lined with simple fabric. Naturino shoes are better shaped, they have a slightly higher sole. They are closer to ideal than simple CCC footwear.

Footwear in action

Our tester felt equally well in both footwear. She did not like any of the models and ran as dynamically, climbed the stairs and walked in cheap and expensive shoes. We did not notice any differences in the position of the foot, we also did not notice any signs of comfort during movement in cheaper and more expensive shoes.

More expensive footwear could not cope with the problem of sweating feet. After removing the feet from the footwear, both the cheaper and more expensive footwear sock was slightly damp. Therefore, if your child's feet sweat, it is rather difficult to expect that choosing more expensive shoes will solve this problem.

Is it worth buying expensive shoes for your child? It is difficult to give a definite answer. Many issues should be taken into account, including the basic one - the wealth of the parents' portfolio and the balance of profits and losses presented above.

And you? What do you think about this? Is it worth investing in expensive footwear for a child?

It is all true, but as for me, if there are visitors to the sites, then there are comments, tk. everyone wants to take part in the discussion of a particular topic, thereby to light up in the circle of bloggers, so I think the number of comments is in direct proportion to the number of visitors .. well, we don’t take spam of course
